Twittered off
Twitter has stopped sending out its updates to UK mobile phones - meaning an abrupt end of our news and Stags text alerts. This is a real shame - those alerts were going strong and steadily building interest.
It always seemed a bit too good to be true that we could send text alerts out at no cost to anyone (except, I suppose, to Twitter). It was good while it lasted. Hopefully Twitter will either find a low-cost way of reinstating the text updates, or someone else will plug the gap in the market instead.
What the exercise has made clear to us, is that a good text alert service is extremely important.
Of course, it won't be too long before most people are getting email straight sent to their phone, and once that becomes the norm, will it mean the death of the text message anyway?
